Personal Relationship with God

4squares_sm.gif

Many of the problems in our lives from personal sin are directly related to our personal relationship with God and what we allow to pass through our seven doors daily: Mind, Eyes, Ears, Mouth, Heart (Emotion), Desires (Passions), and Hands (Works). Singing praises and attending church are great things to do, but true worship of God is obeying Him and His law with all your heart Mathew 5:17-20 and Matthew 15:8-9

It is written in John 4:23-24 23Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth."

Some may believe that they already have a personal relationship, but challenging questions would be: Is it in spirit and in truth? On whose terms?  Do you repent for your sins daily? How much time do you spend focused on listening to God (not praise or prayer to God) and how much time do you spend listening to the world (soap operas, gossip, etc)? Do you ask God for guidance before deciding upon something major or minor? Is Sunday in your everyday?

What about your thought life? What do you spend time thinking about?  Do your thoughts glorify God?

You may have a relationship, but like any relationship, it needs to grow. We should all have a relationship like King David.

Talking problems out with fellow Christians is sometimes necessary, after all we are here to help each other, but sometimes we unknowingly (and knowingly) place our burdens on others and not our Redeemer. This is sin, either way. Only the Lord can help you through your situation. Talking and praying it through with others is good but it cannot replace your Secret Place time with God (Matt. 6:6). Only He can straighten out your problem or pain-- not sister, brother, pastor, or reverend so-and-so. You must go to Him yourself and lay your burden down in the closet. He is a jealous God. This means you should not replace Him with anything, even your friends, family and fellow brethren in Christ.

Give it to Him.

Your degree of intimacy (peace and joy) with God is directly dictated by your faith and willingness to surrender to His will, His word, and His way.

Jesus Christ is His only begotten Son and through Him,God lives within us John 15:5-8. Through communion with His Holy Spirit, we are able to represent God to the fullest on earth and be His instrument in manifesting His will here as it is in Heaven (Lord's Prayer Matt 6:6). Being in the Secret Place is communion with God and enables us to do greater works as Jesus said we would John 14:12-14.
